I have a 97 TJ 4.0. When moving forward, stopping it and putting it in reverse, for instance a K turn, i have to gently put it into reverse because the gears are still moving forward. I have to slowly apply pressure to bring them to a stop. It isn't alot of pressure, so im not grinding anything down badly, but in the long run, this will kill my tranny. Any ideas on the problem and any solutions besides investing in a new one? Thanks

Once the clutch is depressed, stick it back into one of the forward gears once. You won't grind them synchros going into reverse any longer.

Or just double clutch it...double clutching matches the synchro speed to engine RPM...

I was taught from get-go to put the tranny back into first after coming to a full stop before going into reverse. Jamming it into reverse tears up the synchros.
