I'm incredibly new to the whole Jeeping thing. I just bought an 89 Cherokee 2 door and I want to know if the rear drive shaft is the same as a 4door model. I'm very sorry if this is a stupid question, but I tried looking for the answer on the specs page and couldn't find it. Thanks again for your help.

The driveshaft length is the same between the 2 dr and 4 dr models...as long as they have the same rear axle. With the 89, it most likely has a D35...but it might have a D44. There is a difference of about an inch or two in driveshaft length between those two axles.

Hey thanks a lot guys. I kind of have a follow-up question then... How do I tell the difference between a Dana 35 and a 44 diff? Is there something on the outside of the actual diff?

Here are a few drawings - basically the Dana 44 looks like an apple laying on its side and has a threaded fill plug. THe Dana 35C is more oval and typically has a rubber fill plug.

Those pictures and the info about the plugs will really help. Thanks a lot, man.
