My 1993 cherokee was sold in alaska (how it made it to texas I have no idea) and has no AC and sadly no auxilary electric fan. I bought an aux fan from a salvage yard and plugged it into my stock wiring harness (plug was there just nothing to hook to) and I put in a aux. fan relay into the stock relay box. This may have been me being stupid, but I hoped this would simply be a plug and go thing, but it wasn't. Any suggestions to help me figure out how to wire it up like a normal one would be greatly appreciated.

My electric fan was out when I bought my XJ, and I went to hell and back following wires, replacing relays, checking sensors, finally I said f*ck it and wired it in to a switch by my cigarette lighter alongside a red L.E.D. to remind me that it's on. Looks stock, works well, and wasn't hard to put in. I use it when I'm sitting in traffic in the summer and whenever my A/C compressor is running.

The aux fan works with to systems basically.
The fan is a pusher fan for the AC condenser when the compressor cuts on.
The fan also acts as backup for the cooling system.
Depending on the year they cut on at different temps.
The 1988 4.0l to 1993 may come on at 205 degrees.
The 1994 to 2002 may come on at 225 degrees.
My 1988 comes on at 205 degrees.
My 1991, I am not sure as I have not got it to come on yet.
The best bet is do as the second post had done wire it with a switch and relay. For 4 wheeling only or heavy traffic.
As how the XJ got to Texas are you near a military base.
My 1991 is from California.
I am near a military base.

thanks for the advice guys. I tinkered with it more this weekend, checking my relay and the coolant temperature switch. Everything seems to work seperate, just not together. So I think I will do as you suggest and just wire up a switch on the dash. Where do you pull a remote wire from? I would like a remote wire so that when I turn the ignition off that it will cut off in case I forget.

silly questions but did you make sure you have a good fuse in the fuse box for the aux fan?

For the remote wire I would go into the windshield wiper fuse or something else that only operates with the key in the 'ON' position.

I replaced the fuse at the same time I replaced the relay
