I cut mine off a long time ago.. .But I seem to remember that you take a big screwdriver and pop them off .. I am pretty sure they just snap on the ball thingy.. ( hope I didnt confuse you with the technical terminology..)

I have a 93 and they are 2 E-Torx screws in the top and a clip on the bottom yes you need a wrench OR you can cut the pivit pin at the top and punch it out and replace it with a nut&bolt then there is no need to use a PLASMA CUTTER (MY GOD).I will remember to not bring my jeep there!

In my '95 ZJ I just replaced mine about ten minutes ago. As mentioned screw/bolt is an E-Torx (reverse torx!).

I just used a 1/4 inch socket (six sided)....worked fine...no need to buy a special tool.

But door is heavy so you need a helper.

I had a heavy duty photo light stand that helped prop it open. But was still worried that if that gave way the hatch would be like a human mouse trap.

Get a helper!

Johnny V : E-Torx + 1/4 inch socket (six sided) + a helper + heavy duty photo light stand = 4 tools

martini_thief : plasma cutter = 1 tool

seems obvious to me....

PLASMA CUTTER For the win!!

Video of a 5th door whapping? Priceless
