Quick, maybe stupid, question... What is the difference between a 1998 Cherokee Sport, Classic, and Limited? I'm trying to figure out which one I'm driving.

Basically, each model comes with a different set of standard features. You could go to Edmunds.com and lookup each vehicle and compare each to yours. Usually, it has it on the body somewhere. My '99 says "SPORT" on the sides.

the differences between my sport and my limited are .

limited -leather , overhead console , rocker gaurds , 6 way adjustable seats
,better stereo

my sport has cloth seats , no rocker gaurds and manual seats and no over head console .

i beleive limited is the highest maybe classic is up there to , sports not so high

basically there just trim packages , anything else is a seperate option

Look at your VIN
Here is a link to what the VIN # means.

Thanks for the link. I work at a dunkin donuts for a day job and i got a group of jeep drivers that stops by and one asked which model mine was because all of theirs said sport, classic, or limited on the side and mine did not. I knew it wasn't the limited, and i did a carfax and it just said sport/classic. Thanks again.

Actually, if yours wasn't "badged" (i.e. - no emblem after the word "Cherokee"), it is probably an "SE". The SE was usually the lowest-optioned end of the Jeep spectrum, but sometimes the dealerships threw in a few extras to get it off the lot. Before my blue Sport, I had a white '97 SE that had the Mopar CD/Tape deck with equalizer, rear-window defroster, and full-size spare tire, but had manual locks, windows, and the cheesy 5-spoked wheels ('99 and up had the nicer mags as standard).

Usual SE basic package:

carpeted interior (no leather)
basic wheel package (whatever's lowest end at the time)
manual windows/doors
standard AM/FM radio (usually no CD)
rear window wiper/no defroster (seen wiper omitted as well!)
no floor mats
donut spare tire (no full-size)
no roof rack
no towing package (skid plates, higher gearing, tow hooks and receiver)
and SOMETIMES no 4WD gearing (only 2WD)

So basically a minimalistic package. Two-to-four doors, a frame, four wheels, an engine, and basic interior creature comforts.

Mine is definately not the SE then. Mine has power everything except for seats, including the locks and rear veiw mirrors. cloth interior, floor mats, rear defrost, roof rack, 4WD. I'm pretty sure it's a Sport. Thats what the link from above told me, however there was no limited or classic on the list of models.

If you fill this out Jeep will email you back the specs on your Jeep. I have done 3 of them so far and it takes them about 2-3 days.
