Since this years J.Ho run was a bust, we are starting to plan early for next years run. It will be held Memorial Day weekend 2007 at Black Mountain Recreational Park which is on the border of Kentucky and Virginia (just NE of Bristol, TN).

We'll be working out the details here, so feel free to chime in. Mr. Green

I've been looking up info on places to stay.

They have a camp ground if everyone would like to camp. All the cabins are booked, so you are looking at primitive camping or RV camping. I tried to call and get some info, but there was no answer. They may be closed today. I'll keep trying, when I get some info I'll post it up.

There are a couple of hotels in the area.

Cumberland Motel $45 a night, but they only have a couple of rooms left. So if you are going to stay there, you need to get your room booked ASAP!

There is also the Holiday Inn Express: $87 for Friday and Sat, $73 for Sunday. I have tentatively reserved 6 rooms here, if you want to stay there PM me. I'll give you the confirmation number and you can call and give them your credit card to reserve the room.

There are some more places to stay listed on the web site, but I didn't call. http://www.harlancountytrails.com/area-hotels.php

Since we are doing this Memorial Day weekend (May 25 – 28 ) we need to shake a leg and get your place to stay set.

Steve suggested changing the weekend so we could book the cabins.

Thoughts?

Probably could set the date back one weekend. It wouldn't be a problem with me. I'll probably be scraping the bottom of the barrel for leave at that time since I'm going to be using most of it for my week trip in Feb.

What are the prices for the cabins? Are they available the previous weekend in May?

-Trevor.

Ya, the cabins are available the previous weekend. I don't have any info on prices yet.

We can always move the date. My group will more than likely camp since that is our thing. The one rumor that I hear about this place is to lock your gear. Some locals have been known to rob your stuff while your gone. Just keep that in mind if you plan on camping.

The campgrounds in Evertt are right behind a store that look out for the place. It is run by the city and has a very nice shower and bathroom facility. Don't think you'll get took there and it is almost at the foot of the trails on the south side. Cost $20.00 a day I believe. Did not stay ther but I did review the place for my club. I was impressed with the town overall.

I did not get to see the primitive campgrounds on the otherside of the mountain so I can't speak of those. However, I do believe that is where the theivry took place awhile back.

Towns folks were especially nice to our group and we ate lunch in town everyday. Our group was a mass of out of towners and locals mixed.

We had fun & met good people too.

do you have pictures of your wheeling trip from there or a link to some? All that I find are of rigs that set up for the hardest trails and my jeep isn't at that stage yet.

Sign coming into the town of Evertt. The town caters to the 4WD community and is bending over backwards to promote this industry. Black Rock Mountain is a beautiful place to visit. We couldn't get the scenic pictures the second day because of the fog.

Trail head leaving town (right at the end of the road pavement)

The first trail to the left after getting out of town

Trail winching

More water (me)

Trail markings are pretty good for the most part

A few rocks...

A mountain view

The second day was wet and raining with fog. While it made driving difficult and sometimes downright dangerous on some trails, it was a joy to have some local guys escorting us through the numerous trails.

We were riding with two other clubs, 4x4 Grace (locals) lead by Gordon and George great guys and a real good club. The other club was from Indiana, the Firewalkers. All super people also. Having a common desire, we all feel into a strong friendship right away.

I didn't get a photo of the campgrounds I discussed earlier, sorry. It is located right where you turn to go up the trails though, right next to the creek you'll follow. It is covered with gravel and has all the hoohups for a RV and, I think, Cable TV too.

You're scaring KTJ with those pics. rofl Looks right up my alley though. Wink

From looking at the map, they do have lots of milder trails as well Keith...lots of which intersect with more difficult trails. So we should all be able to run stuff that's up to our individual Jeeps capabilities...no worries. Mr. Green

Yea, I did that on purpose. The real "trail" in most all these pics is just a logging trail that you travel over to get to these places.

The water fall is a small trail that loops around and back onto trail 12. It is seen on the Lower Rock Garden Insert II (top of the map) the red line just abouve the Little Jagger that wraps around the Jeep emblem. Starts out a Class 4 then ends in a Class 5 trail. Because I have to drive home I didn't do this one but drove farther up 12 to meet up at the end of this trail.

Where the Jeeps are bouncing over a rock garden is another tricky photo. Where George's white 4 Runner is parked is near where everyone else decided to park (trail 12) to watch them.

The waterfall I am climbing is the only way into and out of Fossil Creek trail, not listed on the map. Most of the trails as you can see now, do have a good bypass for folks that just don't want to do something. I have to tell you though not all do.

That picture were George and I are pushing on the side of the Jeep is the very begining of "Can Opener." If you look closely to the left(just above our heads), you'll see we have Jeeps parked on the main trail, well out of harms way. This little side trail is seen on the map, just underneath the Lower Rock Garden Insert II on trail (in red) 25C labeled "Upper Rock Garden / Can Opener." Now look and you'll see that trail 12 goes to the right of the red trail.

The mountain view was taken on trail 15 actually beyond the emergency heliocopter landing area as this trail has now been extended.

We wheeled 14 trails in two days and had a pleasant lunch while eating in town both days at the Corner Cafe. Good food at a reasonable price and they didn't mind our muddy boots at all!

Lastly, the group photo was shot in the Holiday Inn Express parking lot as we were gathering for the first days ride. I believe it is only 3 miles to the trails from here.

There is something for everybody here. Enjoy the trip!
