My friend is getting an intake for his 99 TJ with 4.0, I like K&N just because they're well known as good, long lasting products, but does anyone know of anything else he should look at before buying it? Maybe a lesser known brand with as much power gain, and reliability?

Thanks in advance guys!

Tell your friend to save his money. They do relatively little for our Jeeps.

Really? I always read the claims of 10-20 hp. increases. That's disappointing.

This was going to be his birthday present from his parents so does anyone have any other suggestions for 200-250$ bolt on upgrade for a stock wrangler instead of the intake?

Pay no attention to the members of the "Stock Airbox" Club. Mr. Green High-flow intakes will definitely help your engine run stronger but won't do much without a high-flow exhaust to go along with it.

Which Mount Vernon are you from? Washington?

Just to use the FIPK #'s as an example, there is a 12hp gain over running a stock box @ 4600RPM. So yes, there are gains to be had with the bolt ons....problem is that how often are ya running the 4.0l @ 4600RPM?

I took the alternate route and got the K&N replacement filter for the stock housing. I get somewhat better air flow and clean and reoil the filter once a year. The cost of the K&N is about double the price of paper filters, so the K&N pays for itself in two years or so.

That's cool, He was planning on doing Borla headers, and a cat back later on.

And about running upwards of 4,000 RPM, you would be surprised, he sort of thinks of his jeep as a race car haha.

And by the way, I'm from Mount Vernon, Ohio. Not the best place for trails, but we make do.

Thanks again guys, I'll be sure to pass this all along to my buddy.

I got the fipk on my jeep I've it in some deep water it make a difference in the throttle and complete it Rolling Eyes with a high flow exhaust. Yes you don't gain much but snappy throttle can help on or off the trail keep it clean they even make outerwears for it. The only small problem is if you add a snorkle that uses the stock box but some things you just have to make.
