Hello I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport and need to replace the steering box as it has a bad leak. And instead of changing the seals as that sounds like something I do not want to attempt. I have found a steering box but it is from a 1999 XJ. Are the two years using the same box? The one I was looking at comes with the hoses and the pitman arm included.

Have you compared the two??? I think that 97-2001 were the same, but not 100% sure.

I info I found says 92-01 are the same. To be safe, check with your dealer to compare part numbers. How much is the '99 box costing you?

With shipping about $49 total. Is this bad or good?

Good, if it doesn't start to leak in a few months. That's seems very cheap. A new one is about $350. I think I'd consider replacing the seal myself or buying a remanufactured unit (about $225). I guess I am always suspicious of too good of a deal. Good luck. Let us know how you make out.

Check these guys out. I have a variable speed Xtreme duty box and my son has the OE box. They are one of the best in the business and it was only $50 more for there OE box than Auto Zone wanted for a remanufactured one. They are professionally built and they stand behind there product.
