Hi all,

I have a 98 XJ that is giving me a lot excess vibrations after hitting a bump or crack it the road. Basically, if I had to describe it, it feels like a bad bushing where something has been wallowed out and bouncing up and down in the space until it settles.

I crawled under the Jeep to scope things out and I noticed something interesting. I grabbed hold of the rear driveshaft and pulled myself under. When I did this, the tranny, t-case, and my exhaust seemed to creak and moan, so I tried pushing up in the same spot and noticed the same sound and the whole assembly moved maybe half an inch.

I suspect there is a bad bushing somewhere, but I'm not sure where to start. Any ideas would be helpful!

Thanks,
Matt

do the vibrations come from the front or back ? acceleration ? deceleration? braking?

im guessing you have a 4.0 and a auto ?

try tightening up your transmission mounts and transfercase mounts , inspecting them for damage also the engine mounts and were the transmission mates up to the transmission (bell housing )

The vibes are felt after hitting a bump while in motion. Sorry, I was pretty vague on vehicle specs. It's 4.0L 4x4 Auto with a 2 inch lift. I dropped the T-case a couple years back and just recently checked to see if all was tight. It was, but I noticed an exhaust bushing that was starting to mush out. I guess I'm just wondering what to check under there, like which bushing are prone to failing etc.

Thanks,
Matt

Check your trac bar bushings and the frame mount. Sorry for the late entry.
