Anyone know what thermostat temp came stock in the 5.2L V8? I think mine has gone bad or the person who had it before me put in a really cold one. Even on a 50ish temp day on a 23 mile interstate run and some city roads I barely get past about 160F on my temp gauge. I can't tell you the last time winter or summer that it has gotten anywhere near 210 (which I assume is normal operationg temp, my buddies tj gets to 210 in a matter of 10 minutes or so). I also sometimes get a code that says that the engine has been cold to long and the heat won't work worth a crap if its below 20F outside.

Thanks

I've been thinking about that but don't know if I want to do it. Right now my temp dosen't get near 180 anyway right now. I know that a colder thermostat can help performence but will hurt gas milage, and I don't think I am going to miss a few horsepower. I think the thermostat is stuck open because my friend squeezed the radiator to engine tube and we could hear coolant moving around the near the cap on the other side of the hose.

I've tried running the 180 and my truck did not get any performance gains, it only ran colder. It seemed like the thermostat was staying open, that's because the motor is still trying to get to normal operating temperature. The motor and ecu are designed to operate at around 195, for me that's where I like to be.

you wont see more performance with a lower temperature thermostat , in fact you would see more power if your engine was running hotter (to a point) putting in a 180 could mess with the cts a little if you have one , not like the computer actually listens to the cts that much anyway , if anything it could make it run leaner because of the temperature drop or do absolutely nothing.

just go buy a replacement for your model and year like some one else recommended

For once, a stock part that is actually the best for the engine, imagine that.

Well, I replaced the thermostat and no leaks and everything seems to be working properly. Turns out that the support that holds the spring in place seperated from the back of the thermostat itself so it was stuck open. So basically I had a 4 part themostat.

Now it doing better but the thing will still not get over 155 degrees. Its heating up faster and stabelizing at 155. I drove around a lot after I put the new thermostat in and it was 70ish degrees that day. I can't even think what could be causing this. Also I did check at the thermostat has 195 stamped on it.

The sensor could be off, mine does the same thing. What's funny is the gauge always read correctly until I tried the 180. Now with the 195 back in, it reads cooler than it actually is. I just ignore it, my JEEP runs strong and heat is nice and hot, so it's all good.
