I have an 88 XJ I6 4.0 and need some help on the vacuum diagram. Is there a mod that has been done in order to remove all of the unnessassary BS? I know on some of my other vehicles with Vacuum lines there had been "free mods" in order to remove them?

its all pretty necessary , there actually isn't that many vacuum lines , well actually that stupid vacuum disconnect front axle adds to it a lot and required the accumulator .

so basically i would leave all your vacuum lines alone .

do you have a problem ? or are you just trying to get rid of the clutter ?

Yes the hardlines from the Vacuum Connect broke. I was looking at Chilton/Haynes and most of them look pointless. Only 2 actually have a vacuum to them (2 coming off of the Intake Manifold) the rest run back into the airbox.

I know on some of my other Chrystler vehiclesthere were mods t elemintae the lines axcept for those that were needed (ended up only being like 2). I just didn't want to have to go to the Stealership for these parts.

well in that case im not sure what you can get rid of my 91 doesn't actually have that many .

are you talking about the large diameter ones coming off your valve cover ? you could just put some little pod filters on them , Don't plug them or your valve cover gasket will blow (the rear one is a pcv) . they pretty much just put some dirty air back into your air box and usually puke oil if they get plugged . there is something on this site about it .

http://jeep.off-road.com/jeep/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=257985

if you want to fix the lines put some shrink tube around the crack and shrink it down it worked great for me when i had the 89 engine and they all broke .

is that what your talking about ? you could just put pod filters on the valve cover side and plug the holes in the air box and see how it runs , should be just fine .

When I rigged up my cool-air intake I had to find a way to filter the air going into the valve cover...so I went to AutoZone and found this for $10:

just put filters on them like the brat 97 did , don't plug them you will blow your valve cover gasket or something worse .

i wouldn't get rid of the small one by your fuel pressure regulator ( at the front )

but ya the two on the valve cover just put some filters on them and call it a day , i would recommend filters or crap could fall into your engine while its not running and if you do any offroading you will also introduce junk into your valve cover and valve train .

were are they broken ? right at the connect ? i had one break at the elbow and i just put some shrink tube on it , it worked perfectly .

don't forget to plug the holes in the air box afterwards .

Not to be rude but I can see a million reasons why just by the pics.

I bought the new parts from Stealership (luckily I used my shop discount).

well since i have a 89 and a 97 i would really have to say it woudln't matter , and yes the 89 uses the same engine as the 88 , how do i know . i know some one with a 88 and checked her out .

but thats good you just went and got the parts . those lines on the valve cover still do the exact same thing .
