I recently put a new water pump in my 98 TJ with 2.5 engine. Afterwards, my heater doesn't get hot. I know the thermo is opening up, so a friend said maybe the heater core was air locked. HE said they had to take his car to a dealer to get it fixed but they had the same problem. Any ideas on how to bleed air out of the heater core? I thought maybe stopping on a steep incline for a few minutes would let the air escape back into the radiator, didn't seem to do much. Any thoughts?

Warm up the JEEP and then check to see if the heater hoses going into and out of the firewall are hot or cold?

some times they get air bound things to check and try is your heater control valve opening, try warming it up to temp and jack up jeep side to side than up and down. No luck, does your t-stat have a small by pass if not take out and drill a 1/8 hole in flat part of t-stat this will alow air to pass. PS I like your pic I'm a package car mechanic Cool

ok, went out a while ago and let it warm up. the hose coming from the thermo housing gets hot, but the hose running to the pump is just warm, not even close to the other hose. I didn't have the heater fan on so i dont think there should have been this much of a difference. So I thought I would take the hose off that leads to the water pump (maybe let some air out?). I shut the engine off, and pulled the hose off and water came shooting out... from the pump side?!?! I couldnt figure this out. Of course, it shot water all over the distributer. I didnt realize it and started up and it ran crappy, figured it out, dried the distributer, and started up fine. Started out running fast but I figured it would slow down... waited... waited... never did. So I thought Id take it for a quick spin, never idled down, stayed up around 2000. Also, the brake pedal is VERY firm but the brakes dont respond much. So it is sitting, cooling off, and drying off. I'm hoping it will be back to normal in a couple hours, maybe a wet sensor? So any input on either problem is welcomed.

ok, so when it started up and ran rough, it backfired. Between my dad and I we figured out it was a vaccuum hose off the brakes, solved the high idle and brakes. The heater still needs suggestions.

runs normally around 210 It warms up fine, it circulates fine, for some reason the hot water isn't getting into the heater core. I think.

What happened to the water pump that was replaced? Was it leaking, or did it have internal damage? Maybe there is something clogging the heater core. With the motor cool, I would remove both heater hoses from the heater core. Then with a garden hose run water through the core to see if it flows smoothly. If it checks out ok, do the same to the heater hoses, remove them and check. If it all checks out you can eliminate the core and hoses as the problem.

the old pump was leaking, bearing went out i think. I thought about runing water through the core today. While I'm at it I may as well flush the whole thing. Sounds like a saturday morning project to me. I'll let you know what happens.

mity vac makes a cool system that uses compressed air to make a vacuum in your cooling system and then you use that vacuum to suck in the perfect amount of coolant with no air pockets .

i would see what you can get to flow through there with a hose . or just keep runing it and the air will work itself out , don't forget to keep checking the level .
