i just got a 91 cherokee, the 4wd isnt working, i guess i have a disconnet axle(I think its called CAD), so is there a way to get rid of the disconnect part with/o swapping whole axle, and will another axle fit in there with no mods.

how do i tell if i have limited slip in the rear and what type of axle it is.

And is there anything i should look for about the 4wd not workin?

There is a way to swap axle shafts to eliminate the disconnect shafts. I know you can use TJ shafts and have to install an inner seal. Your problem is more than likely the vacuum or vacuum motor. You can get a posi-lock engagement system for about $200 or you can make a posi-lock system for under $20. I made the $20 posi-lock and it works great! You can check the 4wd by having someone drive a little while you look at the front driveshaft. If the front driveshaft is spinning you know the problem is not the t-case.
You have either a d35 or chrysler 8.25 rear end. There is usually a limited slip tag on one of the differential cover bolts if you have ls, not always , it could have been removed. If you could post a pic of your rear diff that would help ID it.

Here is info on the posi-locks.

ok the driveshaft is spinning, now it looked like the front right may have spinning when my buddie was doing a donut in the grass. I took it to a big hill to see if it was spinning when i first go it and only the rear right tire was spinning. Will a normal d30 swap with the cad axle with no mods?

Half-track, yes a d30 w/o disconnect will swap in with no mods. Look for a 92-99 diff from an XJ and you'll get the HP d30 w/o disconnect.

Fox, the 8.25 was used with 27 spline shafts 91-96 and 29 spline starting in 97.

I forgot to tell you, if you swap the front diff make sure the gear ratio matches the rear.

It depends on how much manual labor you're ready to put into it. HP means High Pinion. The pinion is set higher on the diff.

Hp = amboid instead of hypoid Lp

no matter what its a open diff unless you put in a locker . do what ever you feel like , you could also just put in a new vacuum motor if you lived near me i have two you could have but i really don't mail things .
