The stock cd players aren't really the best quality. The laser could be dirty or out of alignment. I'd check into replacing it with a decent $100-$150 cd player. I had an old pioneer that lasted me a good 6 years in my jeep with me putting it through hell and back. Good luck!

A detachable face would be the solution Wink . I have almost the same problem in my Grand Crying or Very sad . Will be changing out when money is right Razz . And check with crutchfield . com to find the right match , even if you are not going to buy from them two cents . Good Luck

I have the 2001 Wrangler and the CD player does not work either. I can put the CD into the player, but it does not play. I don't get the error message and it doesn't eject most of the time. And from what my teenage kids who are stereo/CD experts, tell me, the stock radio is crap too. So it is time for a change. I think I'll get one with the ipod connection. Very Happy

My 02's CD player only works when it wants to, and has scared the hell out of a couple times with the volume being up real high then the CD player starts to play.
I'd rather use my Ipod. I have a Monster FM transmitter and sounds alright with the 7 speaker system, I know it's not the best, but it works.
Although Living in SoCal there are so many radio stations, it's hard to find a frequency thats weak enough for my transmitter that's not real strong to work well.
My wife has a Belkin ICAR (I think it's called an ICAR), This transmitter is so strong, I can follow her in my jeep about 100ft back and her transmitter will overpower mine easy, what sucks is some of her music on her IPOD is cRAP.

I got an Alpine head unit with a detatchable face, and it's gotten rained on a couple of times and still seems to work. It has an iPod cable that charges the iPod and lets you see the song information right on the screen. The iPod cable it came with is long enough that I can clip the iPod on a dash support bracket so in case I get broken into and the glove box gets pried open its not a total loss. After that you will want to upgrade the audio components ... I think it's only fair to warn you.

there is a cleaning CD that you could try, it has helped mine as far as skipping. sometimes when I change out my Cd's I'll get that err code, whether it's a reg CD or a burned one but I just keep trying and after a few tries it will take them, then it's smooth sailing! if the cleaner CD doesnt help a replacement one sounds great!! oh and yes a detachable face one is best. In my other jeeps I put a amp, pioneer deck, bazooka self powered sub woofer, upgraded all the speakers, larger ones can go into the sound pods or the sound bar. the system could really crank!

I finally seen what its doing (or not doing). The CD isnt spinning. When you first put it in it will jump about an 1/8 of a turn and stop.
