I have a 96 GC Limited 4.0l 42RE trans had 249TC. I just swapped the TC out of a 93 XJ Sport 4.0l AW4 trans and 242TC. I had the TC's side by side and didn't really notice any difference in the length of the input shaft and both were 23 spline(I counted them)(both). Should I be ok or will I have to pull it out and do the input shaft swap. Should have researched more. It runs and drives fine no noise or anything. Thanks in advance.[/quote]

You should be fine! Overall, I think the 242 case is a little bit longer (not much). If the input gears match you're all set to swap!!! You lucked out!!!

Welcome Mr. Green

Thanks for the quick reply back. I already had it swapped out when i posted. I just wanted to double check. I knew most you guys were swapping in ZJ's with V-8's since mines an I6 i figured not much would've changed but better safe than sorry right? Anyway thanks again. This sites great. I usually can always find what i need by searching but this one must be an isolated case. thanks again!

Here is a page that is very useful for tcase swaps. Spline counts, input shaft lengths, as well as a lot of other pertinent info is listed. The first link is for Jeeps, but the site has the specifications for all tcases and transmissions. Scrolling down the left side options of the second link will take you to the tcases.

It may be well to put this link somewhere visible on a FAQ thread as these tcase questions are asked by nearly everyone unfamiliar with the sport of tcase swaps (myself included).
