Hello, this is my first post to the electronics side of the house. I usually lurk in the mechanical side. Anyways, I just replaced my 4 stock 5 1/4 speakers with Blaupunkt 2-ways. They sound really nice and the ones in the doors have decent bass. The issue is the rear ones mounted in the headliner of my XJ have 0 bass. My guess is there is no bass because the headliner does not seal in the air well enough. Does anyone know if there is an easy fix? I thought maybe sound proofing mat behind the speakers or the covers you can buy that go right behind the speakers. I do not want a sub-woofer because I need all the space I can get. Thx.

if the link doesn't get you anywhere then do a search on foam speaker baffles at crutchfield.com

Yep, those are what I was talking about when I was referring to covers that go over the rear of the speakers. Do the baffles seem to work well?

Nope, they have tweeters but are 2-way. I installed the same ones in the doors and they have lots of bass. Just lacking in the back.

If you really want your system to sound great, just get good replacement speakers with tweeters and then go out and buy a BAZOOKA powered subwoofer for $175.00 and mount it in the back. Your stereo will sound like it was worth 2 grand. I did that with the STOCK CD radio, and the sound is incredible. I did that because A. No one will steal the stock radio and B. I like the big knobs and controls.... easy to use wearing gloves in the winter.
