Hi,

First off, id like to say this forum is a wealth of knowledge. Ive been reading for the past several hours and have learned quite a bit. Hopefully i wont be too much of a paint with the questions i have about modifications to my jeep.

I bought a 4.0 '99 XJ in great shape minus a few deep scratches on the front right fender with 157,000 miles for $2000. It runs great! Anyways, i've been looking in to lifting it, rims, and tires (for now). I'm looking to lift 3-4.5 inches. With a 3-4 inch lift, i can get 31x12.50's with some trimming, or 32x11.50's with a 4.5 inch lift. Right now im leaning towards either a rusty's 3 inch lift, or a RE 3.5 inch lift. Anyone had any negative experience with either of these or suggest one over the other? Any other suggestions in this price range?

I also plan on eventually having a safari rack, warn front and rear bumpers, and a warn wench, which from my research will add some extra stress to the suspension. How will this affect my suspension choice?

If eventually I would like bigger tires, would i need to buy a whole new suspension or could i just buy shackles, spacers, and the other necessities for a 4.5 inch or higher lift?

Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the board!!! You'll find that RE is better thought of on this board, with good reason. Old Man EMU is one of the best, they do have a 3" that may net you over 4". You will need a full suspension lift with anything over a 2" budget boost and as a general rule plan on spending extra to make it all work right. In my opinion when you start adding lift even though the lift manufacturer says everything is included, they always leave a few things that you really need off the list, or after getting under your rig you find parts that need replaced due to normal wear and tear.

check out TNT customs web site. They have a great kit for your cherokee.short arm or long arm. I've owned two cherokees and wish I knew about them at the time. I have heard good about RE and have had bad dealings personally with rustys. Good luck.

I have a 98 xj with a 4.5 lift, and i have the warn front with tube bars, rear bumber with swing gate and tire mount, and the side rocker rails. The extra weight brought the lift down to just over 4 inches. Ive had it on for three years now, and haven't noticed and stress onto the frame itself, it bolts on and evenly distributes the weight of the bumpers evenly. They add a lot more protection to it. Ive hit a deer, and have had a few people hit me at low speeds, plus have a little push match with my buddies wrangler and i have had no damage, and for off road have scrapped up against some rocks and trees, and only scratches.
