My 86 cherokee is just die'in while im driving it. it wont start for a couple of hours and then its fine for awhile. the carb is getting fuel.
Please help

It could be your TPS . On my 93 , it is located on the left hand side of the tranny. Mine would die whille driving and as soon as I replaced the TPS , it was fine.

I don't think carbs have TPS's.

84-86 2.8l v6 cherokee's do have a tps. they run around 50 bucks or so....

i would pop the carb off and clean it out , maybe replace the jets . float height could be messed up or something you never know .

check plugs , rotor cap etc .

does it run rich or lean ?

your fuel pump could be shot , they aren't very expensive i would just replace it . i believe its a mechanical pump .

change the fuel filter maybe .

do you think vapor lock ?


and your tps is located on the throttle body , not on the bellhousing thats the cps . his v6 should have nether . not being a smart ass, im just saying .

brad, you are correct..I seem to always get the tps and cps confused for some reason Sad always have and probably always will. At least I didn't put the tps where the cps is suppose to go Very Happy Very Happy or did I.....
I meant to say I changed out the Crank Position sensor and it solved my stalling problem......

there are so many abbreviations how can you not get them mixed up Smile carbed vehicles have next to no sensors .

carburetor , 2.8 carburetor , not efi . no sensors , occasional solenoids but thats it .
