I have a 1993 Jeep Cherokee and hadn't had any problems with it untill yesterday... I was driving down the road and went to give it a little gas at the bottom of the hill and nothing happened. Runs and sounds fine just will not go anywhere. Tried shifting into reverse and still nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok so absolutely nothing happens when you step on the pedal ? neutral or in gear . to me that says the throttle cable is broken .

if it just bogs down before a hill or something i would look at changing the fuel filter and maybe air filter . if that does nothing then check spark plugs cap and rotor wires and finally throttle position sensor .

are you getting any fault codes? check engine light perhaps ?

welcome to the forum , im sure i have been little help so far Smile

The throttle cable is not broken -the jeep runs great. You can put it in gear it won't move- you can rev the engine all day and it's like you are in netrueal. It never made any noise or slipped it just won't take gear - we are not getting any fault codes. Thanks for all your help & suggestions. Got any more?

Have you checked your shift linkage? Or possibly your transfer case may be in neutral. so check the linkage on that to. If that does not work put two holes in the floor board and drive like Fred Flintstone.

The linkage is fine. It's A 2WD.
Got a fault code 12 & 55
The 12 is the battery has been disconnected?
and the 55 is end of code?

Come on you guys help me figure this out my other half will junk it because he got iit in on trade and doesn't have anything in it - I have drove it for a year with no problems and hate the thoughts of having to go back to driving my Honda Accord. Thanks for all the replies!

ok so you turn it on , put it in gear and it doesn't move ?

to me this says the tranny blew up or something broke , perhaps the shift cable for the tranny broke , on the drivers side at the front of the transmission there is a small arm with a cable on it , put it in park and look were it is then put it in 1st and look were it is . did it move?

does the driveshaft spin when you put it in gear ?

The shift cable didn't break. The driveshaft doesn't spin.

The Tranny has never gave any trouble made any noise or hesitated. I was just driving down the road when I spoted a trooper so I left off the gas and kinda coasted to the bottom of the hill - when i got to the bottom and went to give it a little gas - the engine reved up but the jeep didn't move. Called home and my other half came and got me with the roll-back brought it home and unloaded it and that is still where it is at. He'll get around to looking at it but the paying customers get first dibs on him- I'm just anxious and the thought hasn't hit him that I caontrol alot of things he likes here at home...Ha ha Thanks so much for all your help and If anyone has anymore ideas please pass them on.

it can only be transmission related , from the flex plate to the output shaft of the tranny.

you can try and figure out what is wrong with it or just buy a new tranny , personally i have a good aw4 tranny sitting around i would let go for 300$ so its not really a big deal .

alot of things could be wrong with the transmission . so i wont list them .
