Ok we all want big braks but we have wimpy single piston caliper brakes. we try with expensive rotors and high quality pads.

i cracked my fancy drilled rotors and decided to go ahead with my plans. i heard from some wierd guy in the junk yard that had a XJ had upgraded his front brakes by putting the front brakes of a WJ on it.

so i went for it and discovered some bumps, but all turned out AWSOME!!!

here is what you will need, its alot, and by doing this you will require additionl mods to ur jeep, but all are good. Very Happy

1. steering knuckels for a WJ
2. brake calipers and hangers for a WJ
3. front rotors for a 05 ford explorer
4. Axle shaft assembly off of a XJ (not shure what year, or if it matters)
5. 19/32 drill bit (to drill out the holes in the ford rotor so it fits over the lug studs
6. slightly extended brake lines, about 8in
7. new WJ brake pads. (make shure u get the right kind, there are 2)
8. a transfer case that has 2wd so u dont kill ur new U-jointed shafts

that should b it.

i have ran this setup on my dana 30 LP without dront DS because i am working on the axle and i am instaling a 30HP,

anyway, with this setup u cannot run ur ABS sensors (they ont fit in the WJ nuckle) but thats ok, i was able to lock up my front brakes of my zj doing at least 90 MPH, and i stoped fast.

i will be doing 100% final assembly of this in about 1 week and i will poast pics and i will make a write up for it.

if anyone has any questions, i will b more than happy 2 awnser them.

o yea, allmost 4 got, if u do this, u will have 11" rotors and duel piston caliper brakes, and you cannot run on a 15" rim if you have these brakes. un less they are steel and have 4" back spaceing , and even then it is not garonteeed.

**** just rembered another way to set up the breakes so that you dont need new shafts or new T-case.
you need a piece of steel pipe with an internal diameter of 1/2 inch. and a legth of .25 inches,
this spacer is 2 be inserted the brake havger and brake caliper, a slightly longer bolt will be required to securley hold the caliper.

not realy.... unless you dont know how 2 control your self and ur vehicle in an emergency situation in which case you dont know what 2do u just mash the braks, yea its bad..

you just have to be able apply the the correct abount of brake pressure so you dont lock em up. its not that hard,

this brake upgrade has allready saved my life once.

I was cetainly happy when I got rid of my ABS.. Anyone who knows anything about Chrysler ABS knows that if you happen to drive thru a puddle right before you mash your brakes they will go right to the floor and you will not stop.. Its a very bad feeling.. It happened to me several times before I ripped out all the ABS crap on mine.. I like being able to mash the pedal and have the brakes lock up.. If you do a rear disk conversion you will be able to stop very well and you will not have to lock up your front tires to stop..

Disk conversion on a grand is easy.. Just go to a bone yard and pull the disks off of a newer grand and put them on.. rofl Or if you have an 8.8 you can use brakes off of a police car or newer Exploder..

i all ready got dick's in the rear,

and i dont try 2 lock up the fronts when i wana stop fast, it will actulay take you longer longer 2 stop if u lock em up as opposed to the point just before you lock em up.

i guess i'm confused. how exactly do you control your jeep once the tires have locked up when cruising at 90 mph?

and i think that this might possibly be the reason your mashing on the brakes in the first place!
chris (maybe the website needs an update on the porn/spam filter???)

well, you dont control it when its going 90 and you lock em up...i only did it for about 1/2 a second to see if they could do it, i immediatley let off.

BTW....that was a 100% typo, look at ur key board...the 'C' is verey close 2 the 'S'......so give me a little leeway.

I have not had a problem with my ZJ brakes! All my other jeeps have rear drums, so front and rear disc is awesome. My fronts and rears have always worked flawlessly for me, even when wet or totally mudded up, hot or after breaking through ice puddles in the winter. If it ain't broke I won't fix it!!! Cool

My breaks are already all disk and have not given me any trouble.. Except when some crap got under the pads (I think... It occured right after I went though some mud) and then it ruined the rotors but they needed replacing anyway so it was no problem.

Also: Re: typo... Classic... I lol'd

Can I install the above caliper on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited?
Thanks.
