My Jeep is displaying a check engine light for the first time.
I have looked at and tried the OBDII code reading as outlined in: http://jeephorizons.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=2719 but I found mine does not display the codes on the trip meter. There is no enginge light flash to count with the OBDI method noted. I do however get the tachometre and speedometre jumping through some numbers during the 111111 through 999999 cycle that the trip displays. How do I read these? Shocked
tach: 2 5 6 5 2 - -
speedo: 40+ 80+ 120+ 200++ 120+ 80+ 40+

What codes do these represent?

I also just had my a/c fan stop working on all but the high setting, with a burning smell inside the vehicle, but I understand the corossion on the assembly in the fan housing is the problem... holding it in my hand now. Any easy fix for this that will save $$ ?

I also have 2000 XJ. I just did the OBDII code reading on my car and got exactly the same result as you.

I donīt think the "jumpin meters" signifies error codes. My guess that this is just a self test.

Maybe the OBDII code reading is not applicable on the 2000 cars. Or perhaps you have to trigger it in another way than descibed in your link.

I have purchased an OBDII code reader. The only one I see is P0138. Certainly nothing to do with those jumping gauges, as you noted.
Thanks for looking Fredrik.
