The water pump in my 01 Wrangler Sport has been leaking coolant for a couple days now. I got a new pump today and thinking this was gonna be a simple swap out with the old pump I climbed under the hood as soon as I got home. Unfortunately, 5 hrs later very little progress has been made. For some reason I can't get the fan clutch nut to budge. I've looked all over the internet for help and called around to various auto shops for any info they can give me. I've tried everything from a wrench to a sledge hammer. Correct me if I'm wrong but it should turn counter-clockwise right? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm sitting by a campfire and don't have my jeep here, but going from memory, using a clutch fan wrench, mount it up and hit the bottom of the wrench in a counter clockwise direction.

Yes threads are reversed on fan clutches

I finally got it off. I think the main problem was trying to keep the water pump pulley from turning with the clutch nut. I finally wedged in a pair of vise grips on the pulley to keep it stationary and just used an adjustable wrench and rubber mallet. It took some elbow grease but finally broke loose.

Thanks for the input.
