ok, i am asking these questions for my friend reguarding his grand cherokee, i gave him my opinion and would not listen 2 me.

my friend has a 93 5.2V8 with a 4.5 kit and 33's on short arms. dana 35 and 30 axles, and stock gears.

here is the thing, he is convinced that he will be better of doing a long arm kit and coil overs than doing gears and lockers, i have tried 2 explan 2 him that a good short arm kit and lockers can b a verey capable setup.

also, he isnt a wrencher by any means, he has all his work done at a local shop here in town, which i would never take my rig 2 cuz they over charge like hell, and my friend also told me that the guy there wanted 2 put leafs in the rear end of his grand. that 2 me is a big NO NO!.

any way, i am trying to get 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and maby like 20th oppions on what my friend should do

if your friend feels he has over 4 grand to blow let him learn his lesson the hard way.at 4.5 he can survive with short arms any more lift and i would say ya he needs to move up to long arms.

so lets get this straight he is run 4.5 of lift with a 33 or so and he still hasn't geared it.granted its a V8 but the extra money he is tossing down the gas tank could go a long way to help him afford stuff later if he were to regear it.

I would do the gears and a rear end swap. Locking a d35 is asking for trouble

then after my 33s wore out i would go long arm and 35s

but what do i know i have an xj with 4.5" lift, 33s, and stock gears, but i am locked with a d44. And its not my DD. Is that enough to have my opinion heard? rofl

Lockers will put you light years above a lift.. I can tell you that a locked Jeep on 31's would definatly out perform a lifted jeep on 37's.

However .. Locking a V8 with stock axles is going to do nothing but break your axles..He needs to upgrade his axles ..If he put a HP30 and a Ford 8.8 in there with some good shafts in the front..And throw some lockers in it he will go almost anyplace he wants to go.. And for considerably less than long arms..

As far as leaf springs go.. It would be rediculous to give up the flex and suspension travel that you get with coils and 5 link to go to leaf springs . All you would gain is lift and no performance. (Hell Even YJ guys switch to coils or coilovers when they get huge and hardcore.. Mr. Green

Not to mention if these guys dont know what they are doing when they start welding brackets onto the unit frame for the leaf springs .. It could ruin the structural integrity.. I would be very wary of letting someone weld onto my unit frame.. (someone other than me that is.. rofl )
