A couple of years ago after a speeding cops wife killed my 97 xj I picked up my current jeep (2000) that was formally a fleet vehicle for Il. Dot. I was surprised to see that she came with front and rear skidplates. My father-in-law swears that all xj's come with these standard and that the reason that you never see them is because everyone takes them off. Now this seems far fetched to me, anyone else know anything different.

Correct, not all XJ's came with skids. It all depended on the trim package that was ordered when the Jeep was built. I know the upcountry package came with them. Not sure what others....

My 98 came with well nothing. A beam running across holding my Transmission and Tcase up. Thats about it.

My TJ came with tons and it still blows me away why XJ's dont. I guess they figure we can cross the speed bumps at the grocery store and will not scrape anything. Go figure.

I've been thinking about taking them off for a while. I dont wheel and I figure I could get a little better mileage out of the heap with out the extra weight, of course extra cash is always a plus so if I do take them off they are going to be up for grabs.
