I have the stock auto trans in a 2000 Sahara. We drive the Jeep quite a bit on the road because we like it and we do alot of moderate offroading. I am thinking the slow speed clawing must be a heat stress for the trans. I live on the west coast and we don't let the summer heat restrict our off roading.

I run a B&M Automatic Trans cooler...$50 at Summitracing

Every 20 degrees you lower the transmission fluid temp, you will double the life of the tranny....you can't beat that for $50.

I just popped in a tranny cooler in my XJ and it makes all the difference in the world. Now I don't have to worry about slipping in and out of gears because my transmission got too hot while trailing. Mr. Green

I run the biggest cooler napa had to offer, half the size of the condenser on my Xj, so that had to be removed.

On my zj which is my DD I just have a mopar aux cooler

both made a major difference in running temps
