Me again.
97 wrangler sport, all new front end tie rods, new steering damper. new tires dunlop rover at 31 10.5 15 slight vibration at certain speeds, whole steering wheel shakes, front end shimmies back and forth. got the tires today, i think they are out of balance. could it be:

front u joints(already repalced rears)
leaky right side tire rod end boot(hole from factory dont hold grease)
on tires upper and lower bearings(not sure what they are called)

what else.

Thanks

Dan

Order of testing

Bad Tire = Rotate (out of round out or off balance)
Alignment out of whack = Will also show is next items is/are bad
Ball joints
Gear slop (play) in the steering box.

just got back from rotating tires. vibration seems to have gone to rear. tires were just put on today brand new. still slight vibration, mostly at 75-80mph. right tie rod end boot is broke dont hold grease(any impact on vibration?) ball joints dont have much play when you move tire, however they dont hold grease anymore, boots are poped out. alignment just done today as well. onlt thing with alignment is the steeering wheel is off slightly(doubt source of vibration.

is it possible to get a 97 w/148k feeling perfec tly smoth with no vibration? i may be trying for the impossible.

thanks

You're not asking the impossible, you're just on the wrong tire.

You said Dunlop rovers, you didnt specify Mud Rivers or Allterrain rovers.

If you got Mud Rovers, forget that, 80 is WAY to fast for Mud tires.

If you got allterrains either you have a bad tire, a bad balance, or a bent rim.
AllTerrain

Rough Terrain

Mud Terrain

for reply. they are a/t's. just took long trip to lake george. @ 60 or so wobbled worse than @ 70-75. i got the tolarences from my alignment, they are all good(so the mechanic says) i guess its possible that all 4 tires were bazlanced wrong. like i said i rotated fronts to rear and same vibration. but on older bf a/t's vibration not as bad.
