My idle sits about about 350, maybe 400. (haven't used a tach yet, judging by the dash tach). Also I seem to shift gears at about 2k. And while cruising down the freeway my rpm sticks at about 1.5k.

But then it's my first Jeep. Maybe that's how they're supposed to work? Idle should be in the 700~ish range shouldn't it?

89 4.0l Automatic Tranny.

Thanks much, Chris.

I've seen in a few posts the suggestion to clean the TPS and IAC. Is that a fairly straight forward process that's done standing beside the jeep, or is it more of a take it inside and lay out all the pieces type of deal?

I've seen mention of taking apart the IAC, does the TPS come apart as well? Or do you just hose it off with carb cleaner?

your gonna hose it and scrub the crap out of it with a wire brush/tooth brush/ scratch chunks off with a screw driver .

take the whole throttle body off so you can clean both sides and so you aren't throwing junk into your engine .
