I have owned my 2001 Grand Cherokee witn V8 for a month and put 2 tanks of gas in it, one with the engine running and one with engine off. The engine died when filling with gas and I could not start it. It turned over, but would not fire. Seems like it was flooded. After 2 hours of sitting, and turning over for several minutes, it finally started. Same thing happened when I filled it with the engine off. When I went to start it, it turned over and would not fire. This time I continued to turn it over for several minutes after letting it sit for 30 minutes. It finally started. Is there a check value in the fuel line or pump? It acts like it is flood. Any ideas? Thanks for the help. This is my first post. Rick

Never, ever do that. Thats a good way to say bye bye to your Jeep and you.

If it is flooded; try holding the gas down when you crank it, that will clear everything from the cylinders and you should be good to go.

your jeep just punished you for doing something stupid

getting any fault codes?

start by changing the fuel filter .

if it does that again , poor a little bit of gas down the throttle body and see if it starts up . could be flooding or not getting enough fuel .

i know that my dads 2002 has a pressurized gas tank and it does not run right when the cap is off or not tight. i guarantee this is why it died and it may be why it didnt start if your cap was not tight
