I'm looking at the 1998 5.9 Limited for winter road trips and foul weather (got a Cadillac for the rest of my needs). It looks like a fantastic vehicle and there are some good deals on the Internet

How are these things for mods? I'd want to install a lift kit, fender flares, bull bumpers, and similar kinds of stuff for light off-roading but don't want a clown car.

I'm also kind of scared that it may be too much luxury to hold up to much abuse.

Thanks for any comments

Looking around, there doesn't seem to be much available for these. Do XJ parts usually fit? I mean, WARN doesn't even list the Grand Cherokee or ZJ for 1998, but instead lists the XJ in their online catalog...

There's loads of stuff available for the ZJ. You just have to search for it. What in particular are you looking for? Check out 4 wheel drive hardware at www.4wd.com -there are plenty of winch bumpers, lift kits, and engine mods. The only real downside to the 5.9 ZJ is that the rear axle doesn't have many mods available for it. The transfer case leaves a little to be desired but you can always swap the full time 249 out for a 242 or 231. Just start out by searching the web.

Thanks, I guess what bugs me is even that site doesn't have a choice for ZJ or Grand Cherokee in the drop down filter at top. I searched their site for ZJ and got stuff like floormats...

I am looking for heavy duty front bumper with winch and bull bars, heavy duty rear bumper with tire rack, wilderness rack, 4" lift kit, and stuff like that (I'm building a house in Denver next year and I like to go into the mountains for skiing and need something that will be a good all-around foul weather workhorse). I was originally thinking about putting all this stuff on an XJ that I got for free but there is too much rust and interior damage to dump money into, so now I'm looking to buy a 5.9 Limited. Unfortunately it does not seem that there is nearly as much hardware for it.

Couple more sites for you

http://www.trailready.com/
http://www.rockratz.com/
http://www.kenmtnac.com/Jeep.html

Bumpers are pretty expensive then add shipping on that and its even worse. I'm thinking about making my own. I'm betting it will be a little cheaper.

Indeed they do but if you look at their fender selector page they don't list the ZJ

They're cutout flares. Same concept as here. http://jeephorizons.com/tech/zjflare.html

I saw that article earlier. I also see they don't fit very well Smile

Maybe the XJ flares fit
