SO my tranny is goofy as hell right now. while in reverse it acts as though its in park, while its in neutral it acts like its in drive and while in d 1 and 2 it drives straight like normal, but i have no neutral and no reverse. I know that its something inside the gears because neutral and reverse are in close proximity to eachother, i just dont know what it could be or how to fix it. Also the viscus coupler is fairly demolished within my t-case and im quite sure its just floating around. so im curious to know what you guys think i should do. spend the 3 g's to get er fixed up like new or buy a different jeep with the money. speaking of which i dont really have any money so im interested in keeping this beast running till i do...any ideas?

My tranny has kind of the same problem.. I am pretty much calling it a loss and ditching it for a new one.

I overheated mine pretty badly for a long time and all the fluid leaked out I was stuck on a cass 5 trail in hot weather and didn't wanna have to get towed out.... I eventually got out (after two days of trying.. LOL) and made it home.. The sucky thing was mine was stuck in first gear instead of drive so 25MPH all the way home (20+ miles via the backroads).
I am gonna put a 700r4 in there with an adpter from novack conversions and a new dana 300 t-case (I kind of think I fried that as well?.. Not really sure.. It seems to work ok but I broke of a plastic piece that was around a sensor and most or all of the fluid leaked out)... Total cost? About $1300... This is with a new super badass t-case and tranny (well.. Not NEW but in good working order) with adapters for both... So if you did the work youself and just swapped in a new tranny from a salvage yard you would probably be out like.. $350... $400 max.

what would you rate a tranny swap as far as level of difficulty? would i need any specific tools? and would i be able to do it on jack stands or do i have to get a hoist? and whats the probability of finding a good tranny in a junkyard?

moderate.. ive swapped a tranny with just a jack no stands needed.... but the vehicle was high enough to slide the tranny out on a jack... SO id say you could manage it just be cautous and take your time
