I know the transfer case is in 2wd,but I'm not sure if the cad locked or not?I'm thinking it's the 4wd vacuum switch on the t case or if there is another electrical switch somewhere.
thank you

My 87 doesnt have the vacuum front but the main shaft in the tcase has planetaries. So even when i put the lever in 2wd it takes a few minutes for the gears to line up and disengage the front side of the case. You could have the same problem.

Does yours stay on all the time?

Unhook the plug in the tcase, clean the terminals and reconnect it.

It's a vacuum switch there aren't any terminals. But the switch may be bad if it's definitely in 2wd and the light is staying on.

just found out about the blue line near coolant expansion tank myself. it stays unplugged. just put a motor in my '88 and connectectd the blue line to a red one that looked like it should go somewhere. turns out the red one is for a temp control that i dont have and the blue one goes out to the atmosphere .mine would not shift into 4x4 until i disconected them.you might try pulling lines off actuator and seeing if you have vacuam there, and if it changes with where your transfer is shifted. if you had a broken fork in there i don't think it would be in part time, but i have been wrong before.there are kits that change your front actuator over to a cable system and also instuctions on how to make your own if you are handy.almost did this myself but finally figured it out, may have to go this route if i have any more problems. good luck. Very Happy

I just crawled under there today to check it out. If i put the vacuum lines off the t case switch the light goes out and there is consent vacuum on the red line,so this weekend i'll change the switch and see want happens.I'll let you all know what I find out.
thank you
