I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem... After breaking, often times I get a bump that feels like someone is hitting me from behind. Very weird. I happens more in stop and go situations and feels like it's coming from somewhere mid vehicle. Maybe bad transmission mounts??? Rear end isuue??? I don't know.

Anyone experience this?

Jim

if its happening when your braking maybe (just maybe) its a bad brake line, bad brake booster, or master cylinder? I don't know for sure so I wouldn't rely on my word.

Doesn't happen when actually braking. It ususally happens at the moment I stop.... sometimes a few seconds after as well.

could be anything

shock
shock bushing
transmission mount
leaf spring bushing
motor mount loose
motor mount bushing
transmission internals
transfer case internals
brake drum ( shoe sticking)

the only thing to do is start looking it over till you find something wrong.

my guess would either be something to do with a shock or brake drum sticking

Sounds like it may be axle wrap. How do your rear springs look?

if you have rear leaf springs make sure that the U bolts holding your axle to your springs are nice and tight. mine got loose and sounded like what you described.

Springs look ok but I'll need to take a closer look. Seems like whatever it is, should be a relatively easy fix now that all of you kind people have given me some things to check out.

Sounds exactly like axle wrap to me. Lotsa posts in here about it and seems to be pretty standard issue on automatics. You brake to a stop so the rear rises (spring gets full arch), stop and ease off the brake pedal a bit and then the rear falls (lose the full arch). If you brake slowly so the rear doesn't rise much you will probably notice it doesn't happen. I miss the coil springs my Grand Cherokee had. Rolling Eyes
