There is something fowled up with my transfer case i'm not sure what it is. Can I just take it off and still drive the jeep around? I intend to try to fix it and rebuild it if i have to. Can any one give me any pointers? I really don't want to have to buy a new one.

No, you can't drive without the t-case. rofl

If you post the problem or symptoms, someone may be able to help you.

well i was scared of that. It makes a bad grinding popping noise when it is in 4wd, but it is fine in 2wd.

The inside of the transfer case is a lot simpler than most people think. It's been awhile since I've taken one apart but there's a chain, a few gears, bearings, seals and shift forks. Even if you take it off the Jeep to rebuilt it, it will take less than a day.

Not all the gears spin in the tcase in 2wd. It's definitely something in the 4WD engagement system...a gear that is not engaging properly or a bad bearing...possibly even a loose chain. Does it do it in both 4hi and 4lo?
