Another question for the collective wisdom of the forum:

In a perfect world, I'd like to keep my stock wheels and put 30's or 31's after lifting my 95 SE about 3 inches. I've got the silver/grey steel wheels with the center caps and think it would be cool to keep them. Would wheel spacers work to get the backspacing right, or do they add problems?

On another note, took my XJ out yesterday for her maiden voyage. Went up to 70 on the interstate with no apparent issues. Needs more work, but for having only cost $500 and about $300 in parts, I couldn't be happier (except if it had come in 4WD and I didn't have to make the conversion).

Spacers will work fine, as long as you get good ones! Cool

Hi, i have 31.10.50 on my stock wheels no problems, you only have to adjust your steering stops slightly. http://www.birtydastardsjeepclub.com/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=1496

I like those rims painted like that. I've got a set I'll have to paint up!

Tag, how much lift do you have? Also, I started painting my wheels today. Black is the color of choice. Oh, and Orange, could you define what or who makes good ones?

They are pricey, but they're good if you want spacers. You just want to make sure you get machined spacers, not cast! Like Tag said, 31's will work if you adjust the steering stops.

Yeah, you don't need spacers! they will just make your wheels stick out usually 35mm 1 1/2 inch and put more stress on your bearings, i have a 3 inch lift like you. Adjust the stops so the tyres don't rub on full lock. if you want to go wider i would suggest new wider rims, the paint i used was black matt engine enamel, i used to use it on motor bike engines good stuff . the name on the spray can is SPEREX you can see it on the pic.

Thanks guys. I haven't lifted it yet, but I'm trying to plan ahead. I don't drive it everyday (drive a company vehicle daily), but I want to keep the lift reasonable right now so I don't have to make the underbody geometry changes. It's mainly my hunting vehicle and running around town vehicle, with the occasional out of town trip and some periodic wheeling when I can find a place.

The help I'm getting from people like ya'll has been excellent.
