Just signed up and wanted say hello and of course ask a few questions.

Just bought a 2000 Limited 2wd with 85k miles. Will be my daily driver and weekend kayak transport.

Anyway she has 225x70x16 (28's)tires and the speedo is off (fast) (GPS reads 65 , speedo in jeep says 70mph) by 5 mph @70, proportionally less at slower speeds, could the speedo gearing be worn and need to be replaced ?????

Also need to replace the original shocks , how would the Black Diamonds be in a stock 2wd????

WELCOME to the Board!

For what its worth, GPS always seems to run a few miles an hour SLOWER than every vehicle I own. That is a stock Explorer and wife's Honda too.

EDIT I confused myself, GPS states I am going under speed limit when I am fairly certain I am going speed limit. Better I think to err in that direction. I have had my share of tickets in younger life!

My lifted Cherokee was dialed in with a replacement gear as close as I could get but it is also a mph or two off still from GPS.

If yours is fairly stock, I don't think a "worn" speedo gear is the problem.

Check GPS against another vehicle or two. You may find them off too?

My two cents worth. . . .

My Jeep was off on stock tires as well. When I went to 30's it was right on the money. I've checked every vehicle I have against my GPS and all have read a little fast on the speedometer. My guess is that the manufacturers do it on purpose...it's better to have the speedo read faster than slower. Wink
