While replacing the coolant temperature sending unit (after a gauge cluster swap) I broke it off in to the head ('95 4.0). Yes, I wasn't paying attention, talking to my wife while I was tightening it down. Tightened it too much. Is it realistic to believe I can get it out with an easy out or extractor of some sort? I didn't realize the damned thing was hollow or how frail it was when I was putting it in.

An easy out or extractor should work!

With all the work I've been doing on this thing, I guessed it was only a matter of time before I broke something. Now I have to go buy another sending unit. Jeez. But my new gauge cluster LOOKS cooler than the speedometer and big honkin' gas gauge.

easy outs usually work when you break a fastener while installing it , or if it is sheared . they have a lower success rate on rusted up old stuff .

with easy outs i usually drill the fastener out as close as i can with a left hand bit . half the time you don't even need to use the easy out .

I didn't think to post pics cause it's just a gauge cluster from another cherokee. New to me, I guess is the term. And, I've not really studied the proper procedures for posting pics. I need to though, because I want to post pics of my cherokee.

I'm going to try the easy outs today, after I get one big enough. The one I've borrowed is too small, unless I drill it out (and I'm trying to avoid that).

Oh, and left handed drill bits work great! I used them to get the mounting bolts out that had sheared in to my block.

Just FYI for anybody who does this in the future: #5 extractor will work without having to drill into what's left of the sending unit. Just have to pull all the wiring conduit from the firewall so you can get your hands in there and work without obstruction. And treat the water temp sending unit like it's made of eggshell. That's a delicate little piece of equipment.

Oil pressure sending unit went in without a hitch. I finger-tightened it when I put it in, and it appears that it seated as deep as the original. Didn't use any wrenches on it when I put it in.

Old one, not in it's original location

New one, in it's new location.

I hope this works...

You put too many image tags! [img]goes before the pic, [/img]goes after. One of each, you had two at each end. I put a's in the tags in the quote so you could see. Hit quote on my post and you'll see how it should look. Cool

I didn't see the /img tag, just the first one. Of course, I don't know that I was looking for it.

I didn't realize the pics worked at all in your post, you should reduce the pic size before posting. They're so big it took a while too load them. If they're smaller they will fit on the screen better too!

Nice Upgrade! Very Happy
