no exterior fenders at all? you just open the hood and take the torx bolts out along the joint , two inside the door two at the bottom of the door a support brace on the inside and i think two 6 mm bolts on the front . might be 8mm .

you would definitely get a fine for no fenders at all .

to trim them well go on this website http://www.jeepsite.net/ and go to the fender trimming section on the left .

personally the guy on that site did it the slow way , but he might not have a very steady hand .

personally i would just get a pencil and put my thumb on the edge of the fender and drag the pencil around then go over it with marker , then chop it off with a sawzall or die grinder .

you could always use a protractor to draw the line and drill guide holes like did i suppose . or just watch what the hell your doing .

I just cut mine until the tires quit rubbing, 33s on 4.5 inches of lift.

I could got a little higher on my particular fender style since there isn't anything behind there. I know on the newer XJs the washer fluid bottle is in the way

Me and berk9 sawed them, then used a 2x4 and a hammer to roll the sharp edge under so it wouldn't rub, for a 20 min job it came out damn good and clears the tires

the flares just unbolt from the inside . then you just have to deal with the holes

On the '97 - '01 XJs, the wiper fluid reservoir is in a bad area, and can easily be nicked by a sawzall. I gotta replace mine since the liquid sealant is no longer holding mine together. If you don't go too far up you might be safe, but I went right to the seam of the top of the fender and encountered trouble.
