Hi all, brand new to the forums...

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4.0L, 6 cylinder, 42RE

About three days ago, without any warning, suddenly my heat went from working perfectly to only blowing fairly warm, and only when I totally crank the dial into the red. It does seem to be a little warmer when I rev the engine or accelerate, but marginally.

Since the whole damn cooling system (including new radiator, water pump , fanbelt, fan module and thermostat) is pretty much NEW, I have racked my brain over this and have a few thoughts:

Heater core issue – that may have not been changed, but would it just all of a sudden stop functioning?

Blend door issues – I know these things go, but again, all of a sudden?

Thermostat – I ran the thing up to running temp, which the gauge showed as 195 or so, yet the coolant didn’t bubble out (this was during an air in the system pocket bleeding test I performed)

Have had a water running sound coming from the right side passenger area, leading me to believe there was something going on in that area recently, possibly air in the system.

The hoses leading into the core are warm, not exceptionally hot – should they be?

What I DON'T have is an antifreeze smell or leakage or condensation issues that are usually associated with a blown HC...

Any thoughts, folks? I am about to blow a gasket if it is a heater core replacement I am looking at. I don't have a grand sitting around...

EXACT same thing happened to my 2000 cherokee... And it was the heater core... The heater died completely about 3 weeks after it stopped blowing hot... $700 later I had heat again...

Gah!!!!

I was afraid you'd say that... Wink

You got the whole 9 yards of water sounds, lack of heat, etc.?

Did you attempt to flush it out to see if it got gunked inside before you took the plunge and got it replaced?

I am desperate not to throw money into this damn thing.
