Hi Guys,

This is my first thread in this forum. Let me tell you that it is awesome.

I am a totally newbie in Wrangler stuff but I am definitely decided to buy a Wrangler SE. There are two things that concerns me:

a) Is it true that in highways the max speed to drive is 68 mph ? That is, the speed where the Wrangler still feels secure. My concern is that here in Mexico you can drive sometimes at 80 mph but I was wondering if that is too risky/dangerous on a Wrangler.

b) I have seen that the gas mileage is poor on Wranglers, for obvious reasons. My questions is: would it be the same mileage here in Mexico? You know, we have a poor quality gas. Sad

Thanks in advance for your advice/suggestions.. Very Happy

It would be totally irresponcable to tell anyone to drive faster than the legal limit.

Now multiply that times 100 in a Jeep.

What speed you run is up to you and were your own comfort level is.

In my Jeeps I drove the speed limit on days were there wasnt much wind. If there were 10-15+ mph winds Id back it off 5-10 mph on the highway. I always found that either stock or lifted Wranglers get pushed around alot on the highway by strong winds.

I do 80 just fine in my lifted TJ. ...with about 5.5" of lift and 4.56 gears thats about max speed. But I do have a 4.0l, not the 2.5l.

Thanks to both,

Now I have a better idea. I am not thinking to bypass the speed limits but I wanted to be sure that the Wrangler SE is able to run faster that 70 feeling secure. You never know.

Thanks a lot guys.

Just for the record, my 04 SE will do 80 if i push it, but anything over 70 IMHO is only for a straight road, ad a slight bend in the road over 70 or even 75, youll have some what of a body roll effect.

A Wrangler is not a good vehicle to be looking at doing high speeds in. What I thought was stable in my Wrangler (4" lift, 35s, long arms, front and rear sway bars) is down right scary compared to the Taurus that I daily drive 90 miles round trip. I've had that up to 85-90 without knowing it. Once I start getting near 60 in the Jeep, you know you're going fast.

The biggest problem you'll have is getting the Jeep to that speed. The little 4 cyl just isn't that powerful and you'll have to push her to get to that speed and then maintain it.

Haha maybe its just the little bit of young blood left in me but I've had my 97 stock suspension on 31's up to almost 100mph on I75. I wouldn't advise doing that all the time but I have done it a few times.

My TJ with 32's and a 2" budget boost comfortably cruises at 130 kph (80 mph) an it feels fine on the highway. If its really windy I do slow down though, I really feel the gusts.
