Can you put lift blocks under the axels like in the rear of a truck. I was thinking about it and i kinda figured its probably not a good idea but i'd figure i'd ask first.

Stay away from blocks. Use some lift shackles or a body lift if you want a cheap quick lift!

Take a peek under your YJ if you have one. Specifically, look how the leaf springs run under the axle. If you were to install "lift blocks" in a stock YJ, you'd actually lower the Jeep rather than lift it. Lift blocks only work with the vehicle is Spring Over Axle. Otherwise, they're lowering blocks.

Dont listen to them. Lift blocks on a YJ work just fine. 2" is perfectly safe, but some say you can get away with 3". You will need longer ubolts though so dont forget to pick up some of them.

Erm... how? I am no expert in these matters, but doesn't the YJ have the springs under the axles in stock configuration? If so, I would have thought that anything put between the spring and the axle would tend to lower it. Of course, if you change to spring over axle first, then they would work, for a certain value of "work".
From all I've heard, they would multiply the leverage that the axle has on the spring, thus increasing the tendency for spring wrap, and the likelyhood of spring breakage. Here in Iceland I understand that they are illegal to use on the front axle, because they are considered unsafe. Moderate (2 or 3 inch) blocks are allowed on the rear axle, but generally advised against by those experts I have talked with.

Kári.

It won't work anyway! If you do have SOA's, don't ruin your ride with blocks!
