Hey guys,

this damn "Service 4wd switch" keeps coming up on the screen in my 95 ZJ and the BEEPING is driving me insane from that damn thing. I've tried cleaning the plugs/electrical connections going into the TC, but no luck there.

So, who can check their repair manual for me on a 95 ZJ and tell me what the hell is wrong with this thing?
OR who can tell me how to stop the beeping!!! I'm losing my mind over here!!!!

Thank you,

Jason

The repair manual I have (Haynes) does not mention VIC messages at all.
The way I look at it you have 2 options, the first is just replace the sensor, the second is unplug the two wires that go into the VIC from the sensor. Cool

OK I unplugged the sensor, and it stopped flashing. Does this mean the sensor is bad? it only flashed when in low range, but again unplugging seemed to fix it.

I keep getting an intermitent message on my VIC to service the 4 wheel drive switch. As I was reading this thread I thought I may be having the same problem. I have several questions. Where is the 4wheel drive switch located and how do you service it? This thread mentions replacing the sensor. Where is it located and is it easy to replace? My vehicle is a 93 Grand Cherokee.

If you look at the t-case, there's only two sensors. The smaller one is the 4wd switch, the bigger of the two is the speedo sensor.

Had my grand cherokee to the garage today for oil change and lube. When it was on the lift I was able to find the 4 wheel drive switch. I could find no aparent reason why I keep getting this intermitent message. I guesss I will go to auto zone and get a new one. Will they know what I need or do I need a part number or something in order to get the proper part?

I've got a '98 5.9 and I swapped out the 249 for a 242. Every time I go from 2Hi to any 4wd mode I get the "service 4wd switch" notice on the VIC too. But I never opened up the dash and swapped the wires as recommended in swampy's tech write up. I imagine that doing that would probably solve the problem in my case but I've got no clue as to how to start pulling the dash open and getting the VIC out to swap the wires so I'm content with letting the "Service 4wd Switch" warning to come on.

Ok I had the 4 wheel drive switch replaced and this did not solve the problem. I still get an intermitent message to service 4 wheel drive switch. Where should I look now for the problem?

your vic may be going bad. I've had 2 vic's in mine and waiting on the third now. I too use to get that message. Change your vic. There not to expensive on ebay or try your local salvage yard. GL

I recently had some work done on my air conditioner which required replacing the blend door actuator. During this something messed up the overhead display that shows outside tempature, gas milage and ect. After fixing these things the problem with the service 4wheeel drive switch message seems to have gone away. The only thing i can think of would be a loose connection somewhere. I sure hope it does not come back. Thanks for your input.
