1992 Jeep Cherokee Laredo
4.0L HO
AW4
np231 tcase
unknown rear end

When I shift from park into reverse the rear end of my xj seems to drop about 2 inches, then going into neutral the entire jeep seems to jerk and then going into drive with the brake on it lifts about 3 inches, I need to replace my u-joints for sure (they are popping and vibrating), but what would cause the jeep to want to powerbrake itself? Torque converter? Bad clutch discs in the trans? I am completely oblivious to transmissions and any advice would be appreciated. If its important I am running over 220,000 miles.

Take a look at your rear springs. Are the u-bolts tight? Could be axle wrap? Have someone get in your Jeep and switch through the gears, while your taking a look at the springs for any irregular movement.

I was going to guess Rear Springs moving around too!

Check everything associated for Tightness

Is spring Pack seated on Pin/s?

the packs center bolts are in-tact and the ubolts werent very loose, I did crank on them a little to make sure. After tightening the u-bolts I didnt experience as much lift/drop, but still quite a bit. The only time it does it now is when the motors on high idle, but I never take off at high idle so I think it will be alright. I did notice my leafs arent quite inverted, but they are close. Im getting a 3-4" lift here pretty soon, ill get whole new leaf packs and see if that does the trick.
