I have a 96' Cherokee with the 4.0 in it. About 2 months ago I thought It would be a good ideal to replace the Serpentine Belt, but instead of buying one from the dealer I got it from Oriley's. This damn thing squeaks and squeals like no other no matter how much I tighten it down. I was told that the only way to fix the problem is to buy another belt but it would need to be a chrysler/ jeep belt. How true is this?

hog wash .

is the belt all shiny on the flat side (glazed) ? if so you need to replace it .

when you buy your new belt tighten it properly and check it a week later and then a month later and re adjust if need be .

you can also try buying a can of belt dressing .

does it squeal lots or only when ac is on ? check and make sure everything is aligned right and no bearings are seized .

only thing i ever bought from the dealership for my jeep was a hood latch cable because the parts stores didn't carry them .

the jeep belt holds no magical property's Smile

I've never heard that one before, but it's a good one!
I agree with Brad. Spray some dressing on it.

Your belt may be too tight!

You guys were right. I started my Jeep and kicked the a/c on and tightened the belt down till the squeak went away, drove it around the block and repeated. No more squeaking and squills for me!
