| Ok I have a 04 wrangler with a small problem. My car does not have ABS so I expect the breaks to lock up when I slam on the them. But when I use the breaks hard, only the front will lock up and the rear will still turn. Is this normal or should I bleed em. When I get out of my jeep the rear rotors are still hot, but not as hot as the front so I know there is some use with the rear ones. But how can I get them all to lock and act the same. ps. I also put new pads on all 4 of the disk breaks. I live in Michigan and the weather is getting really bad quickly! |

I don't know of any Jeep previous to the JK that has ABS. Did they even offer it as an option?
I'm kind of in the same boat as you, my 02' has gone thru two sets of front pads, and the rears seem to have little wear, if any. The parking brake pulls to the same spot every time, and holds fine when parked on steep roads….
I had a 93' Toyota truck (bought new), and in the 13 years that I owned it, never replaced the rear shoes.
I've "heard" that the Toyota trucks (of that era) had an automatic proportioning valve, when you have a load; it lets more fluid to the rear breaks giving you more stopping power. Cool concept, not sure if it’s true and I doubt TJ’s have anything like that. _________________ 2002 Wrangler Apex

The front always get more power and is likely to lock up first. What size tires are you running? _________________

This is true! It's called a Load Sensing Proportioning Valve and it does just what you desribed. _________________

| im running the same tire size as the stock. im just using yokohama off road version. the break pads that were on the car were just really old, they were not worn out. I bought the car from an old lady that broke he right arm, so she could no longer shift. its in good condition and have never had one problem with the car. so i replaced the pads because they keep on squelling. i put good pads in the car so mabe there is nothing wrong |
