Anyone know if it is possible to upgrade standard brakes to ABS on a 2005 Unlimited?

Anything is possible, but I think it will be a lot of work. I'm not familiar with the 2005 ABS system, but I have been working on the ABS in my '93 ZJ, with a view to get it working, or, as is becoming increasingly tempting, to scrap it. I have found that it involves all the following components, which would need to be added/replaced:

1. Tone rings at each wheel (this would probably mean replacement of rear axleshafts and front stub axles).
2. Sensors and maybe mounting hardware at each wheel.
3. Accelerometer.
4. Pedal travel sensor (mounted on the brake booster).
5. Probably replacement brake booster (with a mounting point for the sensor. Also note that brake booster and sensor need to be matched.)
6. ABS computer.
7. ABS pump with attached valve bank.
8. Brake plumbing for the pump.
9. Probably a replacement master cylinder (I think the ABS system uses a different version than the regular system).
10. Some relays and fuses.
11. A sh*tload of wiring and connectors.
Now, as I said, this is for a '93 ZJ, and your 2005 TJ may use a different system, but I think it is indicative. A close comparison of the ABS and non-ABS systems for your model would be needed to provide a definitive list.
So, possible? Yes. Worthwhile? Your call, but I would doubt it.

Kári.

Thanks for the reply. I think buying a 2006 or newer is a better route.

No. Any TJ with a D44 rear axle was NEVER equipped with ABS. It just wasn't built that way. You won't find all the parts you'll need, like the axle shaft mounted tone rings. If you want ABS in a Jeep, you'll need a D35 rear (inferior POS) or the newer model JKs.
