| So, after 52000 miles I can't ignore it any longer. I have changed the air filter at recommended intervals, but there is another, much smaller filter located directly under the air filter, inside the box, that is in desperate need of replacement. It is a rectangular piece of foam, held inside a three sided plastic box, and it is hopelessly soaked with oil and dirt. Can someone tell me what the hell this is, what it does, and where I might be able to get a replacement? And...if it is this dirty, is there something else going on with my car? The people at the dealership are worthless, and my local parts store wasn't any help either. Thanks for the help. |

On the GASOLINE model, it is known as a 'breather' filter. Just clean and/or replace as you see fit.
For the CRD - Boost Pressure Solenoid Filter:
It is a part of almost every service on the CRD to inspect this filter and/or replace it as needed. Some guys just buy a lawnmower filter at $5-6 (foam) and replace it. Others clean it in Dawn dishwashing liquid and move on. A K&N or UNI filter cleaner would do just as well, but Dawn is a more economical alternative and does the job. Rinse well, let dry and install. The OEM replacement is at or around $20. _________________ "Money isn't everything, but it keeps the kids in touch!" |
