Here's the story;
I bought a used antenna, radio, and mic from ebay for $80 shipped. It was a Cobra 29 LTD Classic Radio with the corresponding mic and a 28 inch antenna.
The antenna wasn't giving me the range or performance that I was wanting. Everyone said Wilson 1000 so that is what I bought.
While waiting on the new antenna, I was cruising down the road with the original setup and antenna when the radio quit making sounds. I could transmit and receive but the sound (both internal and external speakers tried) was EXTREMELY quiet. I was told by an old man who worked on CBs that I was better off to buy a new radio because the sound chip was shot and I would have to pay for parts and labor for someone who did it and it would be expensive.
Better antenna on the way for a now disfunctional radio.
I searched around and decided to buy the Cobra 29 Nightwatch with the weather function, I kind of wanted the weather function in the first place.
Got the whole new rig set up; Radio and antenna.
I receive weather broadcasts crystal clear so I know the antenna is working, but I cannot receive even a single bit of noise or transmissions sent by other CBers with the CB function on the radio.
So what do you think the problem is here? I can get static and transmissions on weather, but nothing on the CB function.
Is the CB function peaked and tuned separate from weather?
I am brand new to CBs and especially ones with the weather function.
Help please! |

I wouldnt have gone for the wilson personally. I have used a 102 inch whip for eons and had great success. Ive even managed a bit of mobile DX on 10 meters with it. 73, Bill _________________ Powered by Ubuntu 64 bit. Ask me how to try it WITHOUT installing. |

Hiya,
Check to make sure you've got GOOD grounds all around.
