|
|
1998 Jeep Cherokee Classic 6 cylinder 4.0L, the turn signals just stopped working while I was driving it. The hazard warning lights don't work either.
I checked the fuses, no go there.
I've tried replacing the flasher unit with a brand new one. Still not working.
I tried replacing the multi function switch, and the switch itself doesn't seem to make a difference either. (I returned the new switch, but I still have both flasher units)...
Any ideas?
Did I buy a faulty flasher?
Is there something I can do to check the rest of the circuit easily?
Does anyone have a wiring layout diagram that tells me where I can test this stuff?
Help, MY ARM IS GETTING COLD!!!

| The 1998 version only has one flasher. It covers turn signals and hazard warning lights. And, yes, I changed it. |

On another forum I got some useful diagrams from a member there...
With the help of those diagrams and a multimeter I probed away at the flasher socket and discovered that I had exactly what I expected everywhere... EXCEPT the BAT connection... I expected that to be a constant +12V (or so) but in fact I got nothing.
Consulting the diagrams they provided I spotted that that connection was fused, but not in the passenger compartment fuse box, but instead in the under hood power distribution centre. I quickly looked through all of the 15A fuses there (they're helpfully not numbered or labeled) and found what was obviously the culprit. A blown fuse.
I replaced that and everything works again. In future I guess I'll check the fuses under the hood as well as those in the passenger compartment whenever anything fails.

I had a shop replace one of the turn signal bulbs while it was in there for work once, and when we got it back the turn signals didn't work. After replacing the flasher, I decided to change out the bulbs again that they had installed. Sure enough...one of them was bad (or the wrong one). That fixed the problem. Haven't had a repeat of it since...6 years later. _________________ Links4Jeeps |

Now that I think of it I've been having an issue with my blinkers and I do remember I busted out my drivers side lense on my TJ. I wonder if the bulb is krusty and needs cleaned out. Hmmmm..... I'm glad I read this thread because I'm getting annoyed with my flashers. _________________ Links4Jeeps.com
