2003 TJ w/ I6 and Auto with over drive and 42,000 miles original fluid, the trans has never been opened.

Since its gotten cold, when i go out in the morning start the jeep and put it into drive it seems like it shifts into drive, then moments later you feel it shift into gear.

It only does it when I first start it up after its been sitting for a while.

I've checked the fluid level and its fine, the fluid is clean. I'm thinking its something with one of the valves working slow when the trans is cold.

What are your thoughts?

My thoughts are I'd service the tranny. Just because the fluid looks good doesn't mean the filter isn't plugged. I'd start with simple first if it were me. I typically service our automatic rigs' every 20-25k miles. The wife's XJ has 165k miles on the original stuff...and still works great.

Just a thought.
