My 1997 GC Ltd V8 has two adjacent plugs (2 & 3 cylinders left bank standing in front of the truck) badly soaked. In fact, plug 3 has the ceramic material on the electrode cracked. Other plugs are very much ok. In addition, the truck consumes oil and has black tail pipe smoke when pushed hard. What could be wrong with this truck? It has about 180,000miles on it. My mechanic says I should change oil. I am yet to carry out compression test. What is the range of normal cylinder pressure? I wouldnt want to do any valve work or change rings. I need your advice.

Thank you very much.
